Central draw Hindsford AFC in the first round of Gilgryst Cup
Manchester Central has been handed a tough home tie against last years league champions Hindsford AFC in the Gilgryst Cup.
Last season it was Hindsford and Central who were battling it out for number one spot in the league last year with Hindsford finishing on 61 points and Central falling short and ending the season on 57 points. Central faced two tough games against Hindsford last year, drawing 2-2 at home and losing 3-2 away.
Central will be looking to go one better in this year’s competition and reach the final. Last season Central were knocked out in the semi-finals against runners up Beechfield United. Central came from two goals down at half-time to level the scores up at two apiece but came up short on penalties which allowed Beechfield to progress. Last season was the first time Central hadn’t made it into a final of some sort.
Hindsford will be looking to make a better account of themselves in this year’s competition as they were knocked out in the first round by Royton Town 3-2. The last time Hindsford won a game in the Gilgrsyst Cup was back in 2016 as they made it to the second round after beating; Bolton County 2-0 in the Preliminary Round, Heyside 6-3 in the qualifying round and Wythenshawe Amateurs 2-1 in the first round. They were eventually knocked out by eventual winners Rochdale Sacred Heart 3-2.
