Central make it twelve games unbeaten to go eleven points off the summit.
Goals from Josh Frith and a brace from Dan Burns allowed Central to ease past Manchester Gregorians at Belle Vue Sports Village on Saturday afternoon.
Centrals top goalscorer Cory Knight, returned to the Central team after a short spell away at Prestwich Heys. Knight went straight into the starting line-up alongside Dan Burns and Josh Frith who passed a late fitness test.
It was Manchester Gregorians who started the game off the strongest with Martin Love and Matt Shereen having efforts, but they didn’t trouble Jupp in goal.
Central slowly started to grow into the game with Knight slowly finding his feet again, and after his attempted shot was blocked, it fell to the feet of Elvis Amoakwa, but he could only skew the ball out of play.
The game became quite stretched with both teams having limited opportunities to score. Centrals centre-back pairing of Paul Riley and Cyril Davies dealt with everything that Manchester Gregs were throwing at them.
At the other end of the pitch, Cory Knight should have had his first goal back a the club as he latched onto a Dan Burns pass. Unfortunately, his first-time effort was straight at Josh Broadbent in the Gregorians goal and he parried it out for a corner.
It took only 40 seconds of the second half for Central to make the breakthrough, as Dan Burns ran onto a great through ball before looping the ball over the keeper to make it one-nil. It was just the think McGuire’s side needed after the break.
Central started to control proceedings with Dan Burns, Josh Frith and Cory Knight all having opportunities to increase the lead but failed to make their chances count. The best chance came as Joe Darnell’s miss timed shot floated over the Gregs defence, but Amoakwa could stretch enough, and the Gregs keeper gathered comfortably.
Centrals’ lead was doubled on 55 minutes, a high pass from Joe Darnell was chased down by Knight, the Gregs keeper dropped the ball, and it fell to Frith on the edge of the box who chipped the ball over the keeper into an empty net to make it two-nil.
A swift counter-attack could of lead to Josh Frith doubling his tally for the day, but he couldn’t convert. Ben Jupp claimed the ball from a corner he fired the ball to Knight who headed the ball to Frith who’s first- time effort was caught by the Manchester Gregs keeper comfortably.
Moments later Central did have their third, a loose pass found it’s a way to Dario Germano on the halfway line, he then found Dan Burns wide open on the right wing, Burns drove into the box before some neat footwork got him away from the defender before firing past Broadbent to make it three-nil.
Gregs could have pulled one back late on when Lloyd Taylor cut inside of Zak Bell before smashing his shot against the bar and Central managed to clear the ball away.
Central saw out the game comfortably making it 12 games unbeaten. The result leaves them in 4th place on 44 points, eleven points behind league leaders Hindsford with four games in hand.
