Match Preview: Manchester Central vs Old Altrinchamians

Manchester Central will be facing Old Altrinchamians at The Manchester College 4G this Saturday as Paul McGuire’s side look to continue their impressive start to 2019. (KO: 15:00).

Last time out, Manchester Central made the 40 mile round trip to third-placed Rochdale Sacred Heart. Goals from Josh Frith, Dan Burns and Mauro Mendes secured a 5-2 victory as Central moved within five points of Sacred Heart. Old Alts have seen mixed form from the four matches they have played in 2019. They started the new year with an away draw against Chadderton Reserves, followed by a heavy 5-0 to East Manchester. Pat Kelly’s side tasted their first victory of the year with a 1-0 win away to Chadderton Reserves. Last week, Old Alts faced top-of-the-table Hindsford and succumbed to a heavy 4-0 defeat at home.

Manchester Central have gone on a terrific run of form since losing to Hindsford in early November. Paul McGuire’s side have won six out of seven games, scoring 23 in the process, with Central’s only draw coming at home to Chadderton Reserves on December 12th.

A number of players have proved pivotal to Central’s title aspirations since the departure of league top-scorer, Cory Knight. Dan Burns has three goals in his last two games, bringing his total to 9 goals in 13 league matches.

Josh Frith has also been in terrific form with three in his last three matches, bringing his total to 8 in 18 league matches. Mauro Mendes hit two in the space of three minutes with a couple of deft finishes last week against Rochdale Sacred Heart.

Old Altrinchamians’ top scorer Dave Drinkwater has scored 4 goals in 17 games. He has contributed to 19% of Old Alts 21 goals this season. Patrick Ettore has scored 3 goals in 15 appearances this season.
