MATCH PREVIEW: Manchester Central Reserves vs Royton Town Reserves

Manchester Central Reserves are back in league action on Saturday looking to kick-start their season against a top of the table Royton Town Reserves

Saturday’s game is part one as they face Royton Town back to back weekends. This Saturday being at home and next weekend travelling to Royton. 

The new Managerial team of Manager Jaimie Nevitt, with assistant managers Ash Mernock and Alex Harrison, will be hoping a new year will bring new fortune to the Reserve side. 

Central comes into the new year sitting in 7th place. They will be looking for their first win since mid-October after failing to win in their last four games, losing to Moorside Rangers, Uppermill, Heyside and Altrincham Hale. 

Royton Town will be a tough start to the new year for Central having only lost two in their last six games. Royton is sitting top of the league on 31 points after 13 games and eight points clear of second place Altrincham Hale who sit on 23 points. 

A key figure for Royton is top goalscorer Farai Hwenga, who boasts an excellent record of 10 goals in seven games. Royton has the joint best defensive record in the league alongside Heywood St James, but they have conceded 17 goals away compared to eight at home. 

Manager Jaimie Nevitt had this to say about the upcoming game “I’m looking forward to playing our first game of 2019 at home against top of the table Royton Town Res. I’m sure all the lads are looking start off the new year with a good performance and result. Hopefully, it will be a competitive game with some good football on display by our lads

With the first team not having a game, this could be an opportunity for a few first-team players coming back from injury to get some minutes under their belt. 

The game is being played at The Manchester College, Hyde Road, Manchester, M12 6BA. With kick off at 15:00.
