Central are full of confidence after a superb win against Springhead, who were unbeaten coming into the game. A brace from Daniel Burns handed Springhead their first defeat of the season during the heavy rain at Manchester College.
That victory now means Central are 9th with 9 points although Whilst Hindsford race away at the top with 22 points, Central have shown their ability to cope with the division’s best, drawing 2-2 with the league leaders.
Meanwhile, AFC Monton are winless this season losing all 6 games, sitting bottom of the Manchester Premier Division. They have conceded a division high 52 goals and scored a division low of 5 goals.
Their heaviest defeat has come at the hands of Beechfield United who won 14-1. Monton did not play last week as their game vs Dukinfield Town was postponed.
Last season, Monton finished 14th and second bottom in the Premier Division. They won 6 of their 28 league games and scored 22 points.
Whilst not having a standout goal scorer, both Daniel Brown and Rhys Hardy scored 5 goals. Impressively, Declan McLoin scored 4 goals in just 8 games.
Monton featured a huge 84 players last season yet very few appear to be still at the club. Their highest appearance holders Harry Fisher, Lucas Adam, and Robert Cooke are just some of the names not in this year’s squad.
Perhaps suffering from a huge transition, Morton will be desperate to pick up some points against Central, especially playing at home where they won 4 out of their 6 games last year.
Cory Knight still features as one of the league’s top scorers. He sits joint 2nd with 9 goals from 7 games. The attacking duo of Matthew Babilinski and Alexander Honeyball from Hindsford accompany Knight at the top.
Daniel Burns will be eager to add to his 2 goals last time out and this game could provide a decent opportunity for Central’s attack. However, they will not be able to switch off at the back as Monton have scored in 4 of their 6 games this season.
Manchester Central Reserves are also in action as they entertain Moorside Rangers Reserves at The Manchester College (KO: 15:00).
