Manchester Central Reserves look to bounce back from defeat last time out when they face Heywood St James Reserves at Phoenix Ground on Saturday (KO 14:00).
Central Reserves have had a mixed start to their inaugural season in the Manchester Football League Division Four, having stormed to a stunning 12-0 victory over Astley & Tyldesley Reserves in their opening match of the season.
That match saw Central’s attackers put their opponents to the sword with a hat-trick for Nathan Jackson and four goals for second half substitute Jazzie Marong.
However, in their most recent outing on Thursday, Central fell to a 3-2 defeat to Boothstown Reserves. Despite another goal by Jackson and a strike from Joel Edwards, it wasn’t enough to see Central’s second string collect any points on the night.
That result means that, after two games, Central Reserves sit second in the Division four table, leading a pack of seven teams on three points. Central’s impressive +11 goal difference has kept them on top of the pile.
Several of the teams behind Central have only played a single fixture so far this season, however.
Only Boothstown Reserves are ahead of Central, having won both of the matches they have played so far.
Central’s opponents Heywood St James Reserves have not yet played a fixture this season, as can sometimes happen in the lower reaches of the English football pyramid.
They kick off their league campaign against Central, so will likely be looking for a positive result on home soil.
