Manchester Central face a familiar opposition when they take on Beechfield United in the Manchester Football League Premier Division on Thursday at the The Manchester College (KO 20:05).
Central played against Beechfield three times last season, when both teams were in Division One, with manager Paul McGuire’s side winning two of the three.
Central’s last match was a 2-2 draw away at Walshaw Sports, where McGuire watched his men turn come back from two goals down to snatch a point in the second half. Goals from Cyril Davies and Cory Knight earned them a share of the spoils.
Knight scored his fifth goal in four games in the match as he continues his impressive start to the season.
He also scored when the sides last met, last season, opening the scoring in a 2-0 victory for Central.
After four games, Central sit second bottom in 15th position having drawn two and lost two of their opening games – though they do have at least one game in hand on all of the teams around them.
Beechfield have had a similar start to the season to Central, though they have registered a win already. They sit in 11th position with one win, one draw and two losses to start their season.
Their last match, where they picked up their first win of the season, was convincing in the scoreline at least. They thrashed AFC Monton 14-1 at home, with Jordan Jones-Waite scoring six goals and Jamie Sinnott five. Kurtis Lee scored two and MIchael Phythian rounded off the scorers for Beechfield.
However, as impressive of an attacking display as that appears, AFC Monton have lost each of their opening six games and sit rooted to the bottom of the Premier Division table with a goal difference of -47.
Central will look to continue their impressive attacking display so far this season, having scored in every game they’ve played so far, while continuing to improve defensively as they look to securing their first win of their Premier Division spell.
