Manchester Central face a tough match away against Walshaw Sports this Friday in the Manchester Football League Premier Division, as they look to build on their positive result last time out (KO 18:45).
Central earned their first point of the league season last Saturday when they drew 1-1 with Bolton County.
After two disappointing opening defeats it was positive to see manager Paul McGuire’s players finally make their mark on the top division table. Now they will be looking to go one better with three points against Walshaw.
Striker Cory Knight has started the season in remarkable form for Central, having netted four goals in his opening three games. He is joint second-top goalscorer in the league.
McGuire and his team will face a tough test in Walshaw however, who sit sixth in the league table with seven points. They have played one game more than Central, though – winning two, drawing one and losing another.
Their most recent result was a 4-2 defeat to, strangely enough, Bolton County on Tuesday night.
Having been promoted from Division One last season Central always knew they’d face a tough task competing in the higher tier but, even despite two defeats and a draw, the players have performed well at the new level.
Central have been competitive in every match so far, creating a number of good chances and having found the back of the net at least once in every game. Knight has four of their five goals so far this season, with Daniel Burns scoring the other.
The match against Walshaw will undoubtedly be another tough test for McGuire and his players but they will be keen to push on from their last result and register that first win of the season.
