Manchester Central face Royton Town at The Manchester College on Thursday in the 2ndleague game of the season. (KO: 20.05)
Central began the season with a 5-2 defeat at home to Rochdale Sacred Heart. A disappointing spell in the second half saw Central concede 3 goals in 5 minutes. Daniel Burns and last season’s top scorer Cory Knight were on the score sheet. Meanwhile, Royton managed to impressively beat Manchester Gregorians 5-0.
wasn’t our day today, hopefully we can put it right on Thursday. Wasn’t really much in the game, both teams defended poorly and made it a scrappy game. We go again ⚪️⚫️🔴 https://t.co/yCLauxq1l2

Central will be hoping to replicate some of the form shown during the last season as they face Royton who finished 12thin the Premier Division, winning 8, drawing 2 and losing 18. They finished the season on 26 points.
Although suffering defeat last time out, Central will head into the game in a buoyant mood with the manager and players hoping for a victory, something they have been so familiar with of late. At the end of last season, Central sealed the Murray Trophy against Tintwistle Athletic and have completed an excellent pre-season campaign, winning 5 of their 6 games. Last season they only lost 6 league games and did not taste defeat very often.
Royton Town didn’t finish last season in their best form. They lost their last 6 games in a row, finishing the season with 7 defeats in their last 8. However, their recent victory over Manchester Gregorians could prove that they have turned a corner. Central will hope to take advantage of a side that conceded 79 goals whereas Central scored 82 goals on their way to promotion.
In other results from the first week, fellow promoted side Chadderton Reserves lost 2-0 against Heyside whilst Beechfield United played out a 1-1 draw with Springhead.
