Central extend their unbeaten run with a comfortable 2-0 win over Atherton Town at Acres Lane
Kaine Martin scored both goals in what was a routine win for Central on the weekend.
Cory Knight beat two defenders to square it to Knight in the six yard box who tapped the ball into the net to open the scoring.
Central’s led was doubled half way through the second half with an almost identical goal after Knight squared it to Luke Monaghan to make it 2-0.
It was a slow start from both sides, with Central having the better of the opening exchanges but were unable to really test Atherton’s keeper.
Atherton had two opportunities to open the scoring themselves, the most clear cut being a header from Hensley Mills but it went inches wide of the Central goal.
The goal came after a period of domination which saw Atherton put under high pressure from Central’s attacking play. Knight drove past two defenders and put it on a plate for Martin who put the home side 1-0 up.
The second half saw Jordan Hadlow deny Atherton twice with two excellent saves, keeping the score at 1-0.
As the second half went on, Central asserted their dominance and it was capped off when Monaghan doubled the home side’s advantage after Knight added to his previous assist
Central could have easily scored more and they will be hoping to continue their good form heading into next Saturdays game away at Hollinwood FC.
